Below are the Rules and Guidelines and above is the link to download the official entry form. We would like the students’ work to conceptualize not only the race, which includes participants of many ages and levels of experience, but also to integrate the idea that it is being held on Memorial Day to honor current and veteran members of the military. Please take a look at our 2010 winning entry on our race website. Entry deadline: April 15, 2011.
All submissions will become the sole property of Foot Mechanics and Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile and may be used for commercial purposes. We suggest that the students’ original work be copied/scanned as none of the entries will be returned.

When sending us the entries, we ask that they be placed flat in an envelope, with an insert of cardboard or other sturdy material to prevent bending. The Post Office sells 12 ½” x 19” envelopes for your convenience.

CONTEST OVERVIEW / RULES

Foot Mechanics is hosting a competition to create an original work of art to be featured as the official 2011 Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile Poster. All high school students who submit their artwork by APRIL 15, 2011, will be considered.
Each year, the Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile Race features new artwork to commemorate U.S. Military, active, veteran or deceased.  This contest is a very valued and cherished part of our Mile Race competition and winners will be honored just like our winning athletes, with a special award medal for our top 3 entries, in addition to art gift certificates and recognition at the Arcada Theatre after the race. The winner will also be invited to the VIP reception at the Hotel Baker on May 29, 2011. The 1st place   entry will become the official race poster for 2011 and will be widely distributed and featured on our race website, www.footmec1_mnex1.com. We hope to raise funds for our beneficiary charities with the sale of the winning poster.
Below is a list of background information to help you conceptualize your piece. There are no creative guidelines to follow – we don’t want to limit your artistic skills! Please consider:
  • The poster must include the complete official name of the race (Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile) and the date of the race (May 30, 2011).
  • The theme must commemorate the U. S. Military who have lost their lives in service to our country.
  • The race will take place just prior to the Memorial Day Parade.
  • This is our 2nd year presenting the race.
  • The race is a one mile, downhill, foot race taking place on Main Street in St. Charles, Illinois and is open to any age or experience level.
  • A portion of the proceeds will be donated to two worthy organizations – Feet in Need (provides shoes and orthotics to the underprivileged) and Salute, Inc. (provides support to returning veterans and their families)
  • The target audience for the poster includes runners and spectators who wish to commemorate the event and/or their visit to St. Charles.
